What are the origins of Colombina ?

Colombina has its origins in the Italian Commedia dell'arte, where it first appeared in 16th-century Venice.

What are the characteristics of Colombina ?

Colombina typically wears a double-skirted dress with touches of red.

Colombina is beautiful and mischievous, which leads other characters in the Commedia dell'arte to fall under her spell. She is described as a graceful and seductive woman, but also cunning and deceitful. For example, she can make the old, miserly, and vicious Pantalone believe she is attracted to him, only to later turn the tables on him.

As mentioned earlier, the character of Colombina rarely wore a mask during the early centuries of the Commedia dell'arte; however, artists like Pierangelo Summa later created models that could be compared to her.
